(HRI) Facilities
Facilities Overview
As Egypt’s national hub for water research and innovation, the National Water Research Center (NWRC) operates a diverse and advanced infrastructure that underpins its scientific, advisory, and policy-driven missions. NWRC’s facilities are strategically designed to address the full spectrum of water resource challenges—from data acquisition and field experimentation to laboratory analysis, physical modeling, and technology validation.
These assets are categorized into six core domains: Field-Based Research Infrastructure, Physical Modeling and Experimental Halls, Specialized Laboratories, Water Treatment and Reuse Facilities, Aquatic Ecosystems and Weed Management, and Monitoring Networks. Together, they form an integrated platform that supports high-quality research, capacity building, and evidence-based decision-making to ensure sustainable water management in Egypt and the region.
Coastal Hydraulic Lab - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
A wave basin of about 25*34 m, equipped with unidirectional wave generator. Studies related to coastal hydrodynamics, breakwater stability, wave agitation, wave penetration inside ports, etc. are being executed in this wave basin. |
Calibration laboratory (using moving car) - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
Currentmeters are being calibrated in this laboratory, HRi is also providing this service for the different ministery sectors. |
Regional Training Center - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
This center has been established since 1996, the center organize series of short and deploma courses and taylor made courses. Its service has been extended beyond the Nile basin as its start, to the Arab regiona and the whole Africa. |
Hydraulic Experimental Hall No. 1 - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
A big laboratory hall, which is being used for large scale model and mega projects. The hall is about 100 m length and 40 m width. It is occupied also with a small hydraulic flume of 0.9 m width and 30 m length. |
Hydraulic Experimental Hall No. 2 - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
A big laboratory hall, which is being used for large scale model and mega projects. The hall is about 70 m length and 30 m width. It is occupid with one fixed flume wih about 1 m width and 24 length. |
Hydraulic Calibration Hall - Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI)
One of the HRI facilities is the expermental hall dedicated for pump units calibration. |
